An MPP film capacitor is a type of polypropylene film capacitor. The structure of this capacitor uses polypropylene film as a dielectric, and through a special metallizing process, electrodes are deposited on the film, forming a capacitor with excellent performance. An MPP film capacitor features high voltage tolerance, low loss, and long lifespan in its electrical characteristics, making it widely used in various electronic devices and circuits.

An MPP Film Capacitor's Main Functions

  • Filtering function: An MPP film capacitor is commonly used in power supply circuits to remove power noise and high-frequency interference. For example, in switching power supplies, an MPP film capacitor is used in filter circuits to remove unnecessary high-frequency components and stabilize the output voltage.

  • Bypassing function: In some high-frequency circuits, an MPP film capacitor is also often used in bypass circuits to prevent the signal from being interfered with by noise from other circuits. By leading the high-frequency signal to the ground, an MPP film capacitor can enhance the system's anti-interference capability.

  • Coupling function: In audio circuits and amplifier circuits, an MPP film capacitor can be used for signal transmission, i.e., as a coupling capacitor, transferring the signal from the previous stage circuit to the next stage circuit. Its low loss characteristic ensures that the signal transmission does not cause significant distortion.

  • Resonance function: In LC resonance circuits, an MPP film capacitor is typically used with an inductor to form a resonant circuit, selecting or suppressing signals of a particular frequency band.

An MPP Film Capacitor's Advantages

  • Low loss and high stability: The polypropylene film material gives an MPP film capacitor low ESR (Equivalent Series Resistance), therefore, having low loss and high stability, making it suitable for high-frequency and high-voltage applications.

  • Long lifespan: The material of an MPP film capacitor features moisture resistance and high-temperature resistance, enabling it to maintain stable performance over a long time.

  • High voltage tolerance: An MPP film capacitor is suitable for high voltage circuits, especially where high voltage resistance is required.
